Information For Parents

Thank you for your interest in Hurstbridge Primary School. We would like to take this opportunity to tell you a little about learning and teaching at our school.Your children are our most precious resource. They need to be nurtured and developed in a way that enables them to grow into happy, confident, well rounded people. They need to have a strong sense of who they are in order to manage the complexities of an ever changing world.

Our approach to learning and teaching is a holistic one that develops the whole child – academically, emotionally, socially, physically and spiritually. Our curriculum is broad and includes relevant and meaningful life skills to help children on their life’s journey. Now, more than ever before, children need to have strong self esteem. They need to feel connected, have a sense of belonging, feel highly valued for who they are and for the unique contributions they have to make. Hurstbridge draws from a highly diverse and wonderful community and the individual differences between each child are what we value most. We are committed to teaching children to respect and celebrate those differences.

Our teaching staff is committed to zero tolerance of all types of bullying – social, emotional and physical. We provide each child with a pro-active action plan teaching them how to deal with any bullying behaviours. Effective management of any unacceptable behaviours is the key to their extinguishment. Our approach to managing this area is a whole school one which is overseen by our student welfare co-ordinator.

School tours are available on request. You may require information on the variety of curriculum programs we have to offer, including our six specialist areas. Our literacy and numeracy results are amongst the highest in the state. This is a reflection of our high standards and expectations for each child to be the best he/she can be. We aim to make learning enjoyable, with many highlights, so that our children become lifelong learners.

Schools are partnerships. You, as parents, are a vital part of this partnership together with our children and teachers. We offer a variety of educational sessions to enable you to become informed partners, understanding the “how, what, why” of your child’s learning. These sessions are invaluable in helping you to assist with your child’s educational development. Similarly opportunities exist for parents to be involved in our school community both formally and informally – in whichever way you feel comfortable.

We invite you and your family to be part of the special and unique Hurstbridge Primary School community.
