Music at Hurstbridge Primary School is a highly comprehensive, developmental and engaging program that offers a wide range of opportunities for students.

Based on a combination of Kodaly, Orff and Musical Futures methodologies, the program focuses on practical ‘hands-on’ learning, with regular performance opportunities an important feature. These can include assemblies, lunchtime concerts, inter-class concerts, school markets/picnics, and community festivals and events. Students are also exposed to a variety of quality live performances, including those by ‘Musica Viva in Schools’ and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.

The Music department at Hurstbridge Primary boasts an impressive array of facilities and resources, including a dedicated Music classroom with an interactive whiteboard, Apple computers and a wide range of percussion, strings and keyboard instruments. There are also dedicated Band and instrumental music rooms, allowing for tuition in woodwind, keyboard/piano, guitar, drums and violin.

Students have excellent extra-curricular opportunities at Hurstbridge Primary, with the School Band, Choir and Ukulele group rehearsing and performing regularly. Students also have the chance to participate in state and national performance events, including the ACMF National Songwriting Competition (in which 3 of our students received ‘Highly Commended’ in 2011), ‘Wakakirri’ Primary, and the State Schools Spectacular.
